Integrative and Functional Medicine Approach to Optimize Environmental Health
Integrative Collaborative Care: When indicated, we will recommend evidence based natural therapeutics to help support environmental health concerns from Naturopathy to Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Homeopathy. Furthermore, collaborative referrals to appropriate provider(s).
Functional Medicine is a new emerging field, that helps to address numerous imbalances within our physiological system, by using objective functional tests, detailed history, relevant diet analysis, lifestyle questionnaires and comprehensive physical exam.
According to the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM) and the Environmental Working Group (EWG) The question isn’t whether we are toxic or not, but how toxic are we and what are the health implications of the toxic load. Furthermore, what can we do in order to detoxify and improve our ability to reduce our toxic load. Our bodies are accumulating toxic chemicals far faster than we can get rid of them. We are exposed to well over 50,000 toxic chemicals on daily basis in our air, our food and water supply in addition to many consumer skin products.
Common toxins that we can now test for as part of our functional assessments are:
- Mycotoxins and Mold
- Plastics (BPA) and Phthalates
- Organic Phosphate Pesticides (OPP) and Glyphosate
- Chlorinated Pesticides (e.g. DDT, Dieldrin, HCB, Chlordane)
- Solvents & Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
- Heavy metals (e.g. mercury, arsenic, lead, aluminum, thallium)
- Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs)
- Triclosan
Some of the common conditions we see that are linked to environmental toxins are:
- Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS)
- Auto Immune Conditions
- Hormone Imbalance & Disruptors
- Allergies, Asthma, Eczema & Sinusitis
- Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia
